1. Customer initiates verification
When a customer initiates a transaction, the merchant sends a zero-amount account verification on their payment account.
2. Verification request is sent for validation
The verification request quickly passes from the merchant’s bank (the acquirer) to Visa and the customer’s bank (the issuer), who validates it.
3. Respond and store
The issuer response is sent back to the merchant, who can then store the validated credential or customer account for future use.
